Dear Mike:

This concerns your recent request for my candid assessment of P.S. Services’ system for protecting Sunday collection funds. That system, as you know, has been in operation at our parish since early 1992.

Prior to implementation of your system, I had great reservations about the need for any procedures other than those that had been followed by my predecessors. I also felt that the adoption of new, clearly more secure procedures might be taken by some of our staff and volunteers as an indication of mistrust. In addition, I believed that the funds deposited in our bank account each Sunday represented the sum total of what our parishioners had placed in the collection baskets during the Saturday evening and Sunday morning Masses.

Without going into detail, Mike, I can tell you that implementation of your system at St. John’s renewed my belief in the old adage that people and things are not always what they appear to be. Having now witnessed the bottom-line effects of a truly secure Sunday collection system, I would not dream of returning to the old system. I now know that every dollar that is placed in the collections by our parishioners on Saturday evening and Sunday morning is, in fact, deposited to our account.

With sincere appreciation and best wishes, I remain

   James L. McCune
